So sad

Well my well laid intentions failed after only a week. In my defense it has been one of the longest weeks of my life. It started with Allie losing another front tooth and now has quite a cute little gappy smile. Then Garrett finally got into the doc. after a month of stomach and lower problems. He was given many blood tests and then scheduled a colonospcy (have no idea how to spell neither does the computer) It says how sick he was that he agreed to the dreaded deed. Then the night before they called and said they had changed it to an Endoscopy. After as we talked to the Doc. we learned it was 100% conclusive he as Celiac! For those of you who don't know what that is, he allergic to wheat or Gluten as it is called. It is found in Barley, Wheat, Oats, Rye and who knows how many other things. Not only can Garrett not eat any of those food but he can't eat any foods that were processed with machines that touched any of those foods. His small intestine is barely there and torn up so he is suffering from Malnutrion because the small intestine is where you absorb the food. This explains why he has been getting sick A LOT, and has been tired all the time. This has left us a little reeling as I only know how to cook 4 things and 4 of them use gluten. So we have spent several days finding out what Garrett can eat and deciding all our meals eaten with Garrett will be Gluten free. This of course took cleaning out all the of my lovely food storage as you can see by the picture. This was the first round and then we found more things later. It has all been a little stressful and twlightish. Did I mention right after we found this out, Garrett caught the stomach flu that has been going around so he had been home from work almost a week. They did tell us that now that we have changed his diet it will take any where from 6 months to a couple of years to heal his SI and to feel better. It's nice to know it will get better eventually but it's not pretty right now. So I think that about finishes our week. I hope to heaven we don't have another one like it.

What a darling picture of Allie! We feel for you! Celiac disease is NOT fun for any of you and you are all in our prayers! Thank goodness they now know what is the matter and he can move on to healing and regrowing his SI!
love,

While having that condition can't be fun, finally knowing the cause of all the discomfort and pain and how to fix it must be a relief. Is Celiac disease something you develop or has Garrett always had it and just never knew till now?

Allie's gappy smile is cute, Gwen went to the dentist yesterday and has her first loose tooth. In Gwen's case we're hoping that all her teeth fall out quickly in the hope that her permanent teeth will be stronger. It's frustrating to pay so much for dental work on baby teeth, but it's that or have Gwen be the "James Bond Jaws" girl. Of course, "Jaws" could have it's benefits, I think that guy in James Bond could chew threw metal, so that could be handy. Biting siblings would have more severe consequences...

Sorry you have to deal with this. I hope he really improves soon.
Allie's picture is so cute! She is always cute, but the missing front teeth are always an extra dash of sprinkles on the cuteness. :)
